The University City Historical Society is showing off some historic houses in West Philadelphia with a virtual house tour. In episode one you’ll be seeing the house of George Poulin and Keith Roeckle in the Powelton neighborhood. Their circa 1860 is a lovely Italianate single home with many original features and some interesting additions from years past. George has tastefully restored much of the old house over his seven years of ownership.
Welcome to the second episode of the University City Historical Society’s Virtual House Tour. In this edition we’ll be taking a behind the scene look at the home of Heather Calvert. Heather’s house was built in the 1890s and features many fine old Victorian elements with some modern improvements and even has a spacious garden. Heather is also kind enough to share some of the challenges involved with owning a vintage house. But then again, that’s part of the fun of historic home ownership.
In this episode of our Virtual House Tour we’ll be taking an inside look at the home of Paul Steinke in the Garden Court section of University City. Paul’s beautiful twin home was built in 1921 and features a lovely sun porch. Paul was also nice enough to show us his collection of vintage radios.
In this episode we take a look at the home of Roy Harker and Bob Ranando in the newly created Chester-Regent Historic District. Roy and Bob’s home was built in 1889 as part of the upscale Streetcar Suburb of West Philadelphia. These houses were mostly twins built along trolley routes and were intended for the city’s white collar workers. Their home has many fine original features and a large front porch.
